Jan 13, in a big win for
Kashmiri journalist Aarti
Tikoo, Twitter India was
forced to restore her
account, two days after
the Delhi High Court
issued it a notice. The
tweet in contention,
which had been labelled
as 'hateful conduct' by
the micro-blogging site
was also reinstated.
Tikoo said that Twitter
realized that a legal
battle could cost it
dearly. ‘Twitter has
abused its power by
blocking, suspending and
labelling far too many
Indians and far too many
times, that this issue can
be given up just because
they have restored my
account. I will launch a
new battle for the sake
of other citizens.’ she
wrote. Twitter had
restrained her account
on Dec 15 over a tweet
in which she sought
protection from the
Ministry of Home Affairs
for her brother in
Srinagar who was
receiving death threats
from jihadi terrorists.

US: Russia trying
to create pretext
to invade Ukraine
Jan 14, US intelligence
revealed Russian
operatives have been
deployed to conduct a
‘false flag’ attack in
eastern Ukraine that will
act as a trigger for
Moscow to invade its
western neighbor.
Agents had been tasked
to carry out ‘sabotage
attacks’ against Russian
interests to ‘fabricate’
Ukrainian provocations
and justify a Russian
intervention.
A top Russian official
also refused to rule out a
military deployment to
Cuba and Venezuela if
tensions with the United
States escalate. Putin
argued that NATO could
use Ukrainian territory
to deploy missiles
capable of reaching
Moscow in just five
minutes. He warned that
Russia could do the
same by deploying
warships armed with the
latest Zircon hypersonic
cruise missile in neutral
waters.

At its outset the

above the age of 60
years. Starting Jan 3,
teens in the 15-18-year

The high uptake saw

Prime Minister
Narendra Modi took to
Twitter to say, ‘Jan 16,

for India. From
developing and
manufacturing our own

Jan 12, India's Defence
Research and
Development
Organisation (DRDO)
successfully test-fired
the naval variant of the
supersonic BrahMos
cruise missile. DRDO
said the missile hit the
target with ‘pinpoint
accuracy’.
The BrahMos supersonic
cruise missile has an
extended range of 350
to 400 km in the
advanced ‘sea-to-sea-
variant’. The missile was
tested from India's
warship INS
Visakhapatnam. The
BrahMos missile can fly
at a speed of 2.8 Mach
which is almost three
times the speed of
sound. It is the Navy’s
newest indigenously-
built guided-missile
destroyer.
The BrahMos missile
can be launched from
submarines, ships,
aircraft or land. This
variant can be
dispatched either in a
horizontal or vertical
mode, from a moving
or stationary launch
pad to destory both
land and sea targets.
BrahMos was first
deployed by the Navy
on its warships first in
2005, and had the
capability to hit sea-
based targets beyond
radar horizon. It is
designed and
developed by BrahMos
Aerospace, a JV
between DRDO and
Mashinostroyenia of
Russia. India has
deployed a number of
BrahMos missiles in
strategic locations.

India to export
Brahmos missiles
to Philippines
Government to
get equity for
dues in Vodafone
Jan 14, the Philippines has
placed an order on India’s
Brahmos Areospace (BA)
to purchase Brahmos
supersonic cruise missiles
for its navy. The major deal
worth $375 million was
communicated to India
through a Notice of Award
by the Philippines
Department of National
Defence. It directed BA to
provide shore-based anti-
ship missile systems within
ten calendar days of
receiving the order.
The deal is a major step
forward in pushing
defence exports and a
boost for the ‘make-in-
India’ programme. Both
DRDO and BA have been
looking to export to
friendly foreign nations.
The Philippine order is the
biggest for the country
after DRDO bagged orders
from the Armenian
government for weapons
locating radars. India is
expected to receive more
orders from ‘friendly
nations’ in the coming time
as New Delhi is now in an
advanced stage of
discussions in negotiations.

Earlier, Satwik and
Chirag displayed nerves
of steel and even put
their more illustrious
opponents under
pressure with their
tactics to clinch the
men’s doubles title.
Aware of their
opponent’s prowess to
play quick points,
Chirag and Satwik had a
clear game plan of
playing longer rallies.
That meant they were
prepared to play softer
net strokes and even
lift the shuttle high to
force the Indonesians
into making mistakes.
But they also prepared
to counter the top-
seeds game of playing
flat rallies in the middle
at the start and that
allowed them to keep
pace with the
Indonesians at the
start. It was in the 15th
point in the opening
game that they
managed to push the
rally longer.
The approach was to
tire their senior
opponents and
Chirag/Satwik were
willing to lose points
but stick to the plan. It
allowed Setiawan and
Ahsan to win a few
quick points in the
opening game and
close the gap at 13-13.
But Satwik’s big
smashes bailed them
out and helped them
run away with the
opening game.
The second game was
neck-and-neck
through-out as the
Indonesians began
taking more risks. Even
Setiawan tried to go
for the big smashes to
unsettle the Indians
but to their credit,
Chirag and Satwik
stood strong in
defence.
However, the
Indonesians used all
their experience
overturn a 14-18
deficit to earn their
first game point. It was
a tense affair from
there on as both the
combinations were
guilty of making errors
while looking for quick
points.
Setiawan once served
in the net while Ahsan
fouled while going for a

point and the Indians
kept on the pressure
with some fantastic
shot selections. They
ultimately wrapped up
the match in 43
minutes, having saved
five game points to
begin the new season
with a title triumph.
Speaking about the
five-game points in the
second game, Satwik
said, “we knew they
were tired and would
take risks. So, we kept
things tight and it
worked.”
Chirag, who spent some
time practicing his net
play after Saturday’s
semi-final, said, “We
were ready for the way
they played today.

Indians was patient in

opponent made
mistakes under

cross-court smashes

Loh could never breathe
easy.
And those smashes, one
to the left and the other
to Loh’s right, clinched
Sen his champion point
and a place in history.
"It was a crucial first
game. I was leading and
then it became 20-20.
But I managed to pull
out the first game and it
gave me a lot of
confidence," Sen said
after the match.

In the Hindu system of
morality we find that
this fact has been
recognised from very
ancient times; and in
their scriptures and
books on ethics
different rules are laid
down for the different
classes of men the
householder, the
Sannyâsin (the man
who has renounced
the world), and the
student.
The life of every
individual, according
to the Hindu
scriptures, has its
peculiar duties apart
from what belongs in
common to universal
humanity. The Hindu
begins life as a
student; then he
marries and becomes
a householder; in old
age he retires; and
lastly he gives up the
world and becomes a
Sannyasin. To each of
these stages of life
certain duties are
attached. No one of
these stages is
intrinsically superior to
another. The life of the
married man is quite
as great as that of the
celibate who has
devoted himself to
religious work. The
scavenger in the street
is quite as great and
glorious as the king on
his throne. Take him
off his throne, make
him do the work of the
scavenger, and see
how he fares. Take up
the scavenger and see
how he will rule. It is
useless to say that the
man who lives out of
the world is a greater
man than he who lives
in the world; it is much
more difficult to live in
the world and worship
God than to give it up
and live a free and
easy life. The four
stages of life in India
have in later times
been reduced to two
that of the
householder and of
the monk.

the world champion
