told the Madras High
Court on Friday. There is
a clear bar against

institutions run by the

Tamil Nadu advocate-
general told the court.
The submission was
made in response to a
public interest writ
petition challenging a
Hindu-only rule for
recruitment of staff to
Arulmigu Kapaleeswarar
Arts and Science College,
Chennai. Earlier, there
was outrage over an
advertisement calling for
only Hindu’s to apply.
The plea was made by
Suhail, who denied
recruitment as an office
assistant. His plea argues
that as the SC had said
the word Hindu does not
denote a religion even
Mulims could apply.

Oct 25, Union home
minister Amit Shah visited
Jammu and Kashmir (J&K)
in the wake of targeted
Hindu and Sikh civilians
killing in the last three
weeks by terrorists. The
National Investigation
Agency (NIA) has been
pressed into a probe of
four. 13 terrorists have
also been eliminated.
Shah said that those trying
to disrupt the era of
development in J&K, which
started after the
abrogation of Articles 370
and 35A, will be dealt with
severely. Civilians killed
has reduced from an
average of 208 per year
between 2004 and 2014,
to less than 35 per year
between 2014 and 2021.
The goal is to eliminate
such incidents entirely.
At Jammu, he said that the
era of discrimination
against Jammu in favour of
Kashmir is over. Both
Jammu and Kashmir would
see equal growth,

Oct 21, in a major blow
to Turkey the Financial
Action Task Force (FATF)
placed it on its grey list
for failing to check
terror financing. It
retained Pakistan in the
same category as well.
An assessment in
2019
had highlighted serious
issues regarding
Trukey’s effort to
combat money
laundering and terrorist
financing. The grey
listing is a worry for its
president Recep Tayyip
Erdogan as the nation's
economy is already
fragile and it will curtail
its power to raise
international
investment.
Besides denting a
country's image, the
grey-listing impacts a
nation's economy as it
makes it harder for
foreign investors to do
business in a country
that is blamed for
funding terror activities.
Grey listing of a nation
lessens the investor's
confidence in the
country.

The 40,000-tonne, 262

most complex warship

successfully completed
a five-day maiden sea
voyage in August.
Following the first sea

In the Narcotics Control
Bureau (NCB) drug bust
on board a cruise ship,
Cordelia, that was on
its way to Goa at mid-
sea on October 2,
about 20 people,
including Aryan Khan,
son of actor Shahrukh
Khan have been
arrested. NCB Mumbai
zonal director Sameer
Wankhede has led the
probe.
Oct 25, Wankhede
rubbished a number of
allegations Nawab
Malik, Nationalist
Congress Party (NCP)
leader made against
him and his family.
Malik, whose son-in-
law was arrested and
imprisoned for eight
months by NCB in
another drug case, had
accused Wankhede of
trying to extort money
from Shahrukh Khan
along with other
charges. Sameer
refuted these pointing
out Malik was incorrect
that Wankhede was a
Muslim. Wankhede’s
father is a Hindu and
mother was a Muslim.
Malik was also wrong
that Wankhede’s
father’s name was
Dawood. It is
Dnyandev. Wankhede
did not extort money
from Shahrukh Khan. It
is implausible he would
have done so after
arresting Khan’s son.
Neither did he visit
Dubai as Malik alleged.
The Bombay High Court
is hearing a plea for
Aryan Khan’s bail,
where Khan has also
distanced himself from
Malik’s charges.
