Conversion racket
that raised suicide
squad busted –Yogi Adityanath
Jul 3, UP CM Yogi
Adityanath made a
sensational disclosure
in an interview to
Republic TV, about the
arrested individual,
Mohammad Umar
Gautam, a resident of
Delhi’s Batla House
area, who was
instrumental in a mass
conversion racket that
changed the faith of
over 1,500 non-Muslims
to Islam. The CM
disclosed that Umar
had a network for
conversion that spread
across 25 states and
received international
funding from inimical
agencies including
Pakistan’s ISI via
hawala channels. The
conversion racket
targeted children with
disability, who would be
radicalised with the aim
of using them in suicide
squads to target
important centres,
religious places and
VVIPs.
He added that UP has
created a team of 500
police officers to
investigate this crime
and it has gathered the
needed evidence.
The chief minister
outlined the
chronology of how the
plot was unearthed.
Jun 2, two men with
Hindu names entered
the Dasna temple,
Ghaziabad, where Shri
Yati Narshighanand
Saraswati resides.
When they were
searched surgical
blades, potentially
lethal, were found on
them. A police
investigation was
ordered. It was found
both were Muslims
with fake Hindu names.
The two were arrested
for conspiring to attack
Yati Narshinganand.
Investigations also
revealed that one
Salimuddin who was
also involved had
earlier converted one

despondency has set in
on many Afghans, over
their reversal of fortunes
with the Taliban. After
years of Russian
occupation, the US had
dislodged the Taliban
with airstrikes when it
arrived 2 decades ago.
However, the US
departure now, from a
still unfinished war has
let the Taliban regain
control of nearly a third

are lining up to flee the
nation. Prospects for
business and women’s

civilians since 2009 per
the UN.

ED summon, approaches
SC to shield him
Jun 30, The RBI declared
that India had reported a
net current account
surplus of about 1% of
the GDP for financial year
2020-2021. This is a first
in 17 years. The year
before India had
reported a deficit of
about 1%.
Factors contributing to
the surplus include a fall
in imports due to a
partial opening of the
economy and travel
restrictions during the
pandemic coupled with
foreign exchange fund
raising by Reliance Jio.
The resilience of the
software services which
accounted for 49 per cent
of total services exports
also drove the surplus,
the Economic Survey had
pointed out earlier.
A current account surplus
arises when the foreign
exchange inflows from
exports and net
investments exceed
outflows on imports. Our
high crude import bill has
been a key driver of
trade deficit in the past.

Jul 5, Former
Maharashtra Home
Minister Anil
Deshmukh refused to
appear before the ED a
third time today.
Earlier he had skipped
the ED’s summons on
May 25 and May 29
citing a threat of
contracting Covid 19 as
he suffers from age
related ailments.
Deshmukh proposed
that the ED investigate
him via an audio or

instead of an in-person
appearance.
The ED in its third
summon had stated
that examination
through video
conferencing was not
tenable. It emphasized
that it was the
investigating agency’s
prerogative to decide
the manner of
investigation not that
of the individual under
scrutiny.
Deshmukh then
approached the SC to
prevent the ED from
taking any coercive
action against him. He
has explained his
of the two arrested

Salimuddin led the
police to Umar and the
Delhi based Islamic
Dawah Center (IDC)
that undertook mass
conversions to Islam.
Jun 21, the UP ATS
arrested Umar and
chairman of IDC, Mufti
Qazi Jehangir for illegal
mass conversions. The
police recovered a
register that contained
names of over 1,000
people who had
converted in the last 18
months from UP,
Maharashtra, Kerala,
Andhra Pradesh,
Haryana and Delhi.
According to cops the
modus operandi was to
target the economically
weaker sections,
women, children and
the specially abled. The
two reportedly made
false promises of jobs,
money and marriage to
convert to Islam. They
also instilled hatred
towards the previous
religion to facilitate it.
Families of children
converted were not
informed. Girls were
married off to prevent a
return to the original
faith. Umar confessed
to having converted over
1,500 children at School
for the Deaf and Mute in
Noida.
The ATS filed an FIR
charging them under the
India Penal Code, UP’s
new anti-conversion law,
NSA and the Gangster
Act. The state has
started the process of
confiscating the
properties of those who
are accused. Pakistan’s
ISI is known to conspire
to alter the demography
of India by luring
vulnerable people to
convert to Islam. For
this, they fund groups in
India. The UP police has
mounted a serious
attack on such designs.
