Setback for MVA
as High Court asks CBI to
probe Waze appointment,
Police transfers
In a late night
hearing on
Wednesday, the
Bombay High Court
allowed CBI to widen
the probe against the
former state home
minister Anil
Deshmukh and
investigate why the
former Assistant
Police Inspector
Sachin Waze was
reinstated in Police
service and also the
allegations of
corruption charges in
Police transfers made
by IPS officer Rashmi
Shukla.
Earlier, on April 5,
the HC had directed
CBI to conduct a
preliminary enquiry
into former
Commissioner
Parambir Singh’s
corruption charges
against Anil
Deshmukh. . It was
hearing a petition
filed by lawyer Jayshri
Patil. Once the
preliminary inquiry
was complete, the
CBI was at discretion
to determine further
course of action, the
bench headed by
Chief Justice Dipankar
Datta had said.

where the Bureau’s
officers were
preparing a charge
sheet against 4
arrested TMC leaders

Agitated CBI workers
besieged the Nizam

the CBI office, and
pelted stones.

also took exception
to the state law
minister agitating at
the CBI court with
over two thousand
supporters, where
the accused were to
be presented. CBI
produced the four
virtually before the
court and the court
granted the accused
interim bail.
The CBI then
approached the High
Court citing
intimidation from
TMC. The High Court
overturned the CBI
court decision and
sent the 4 leaders to
judicial custody
until further orders.
The CBI has
requested that the
case be transferred
outside West Bengal
to Bhubaneswar
citing a security
threat to its officers.
The CBI has also
added the names of
the Chief Minister
and two of her
loyalists, MP Kalyan
Banerjee and state
law minister Maloy
Ghatak, to the FIR
alleging that they
might threaten the
witnesses and the
